Huawei’s CFO and daughter of the company’s founder, Wanzhou Meng, has been arrested in Vancouver and facing extradition to the U.S. for sanctions violations.
U.S. Law Enforcement says she, and Huawei, violated U.S. sanctions against Iran as far back as 2016.
“Wanzhou Meng was arrested in Vancouver on December 1. She is sought for extradition by the United States, and a bail hearing has been set for Friday,” Justice department spokesperson Ian McLeod told The Globe and Mail. “As there is a publication ban in effect, we cannot provide any further detail at this time. The ban was sought by Ms. Meng.
The case is being handled by the Brooklyn, NY office of the U.S. Attorney.
