Plenty of folks didn’t get yesterday’s presidential emergency FEMA text message. If that includes you, don’t panic. And you’re not off the hook from having a direct line to the White House either.
It was surprising the list of people who didn’t receive the text and wondered what it all meant. Were they on some blacklist of people who don’t get warned ahead of a disaster?
First of all, it’s just a test, they’re still working out the kinks in the system. Second, if you have an older phone that isn’t WEA compatible, your device was in airplane mode or you happened to be out of range of a cell tower, any or all of those reasons could be to blame for the error. By the time it matters, you should be in on the mass text from hell.
But for those who did get the message, it was a bit of a surreal experience — especially in a crowd.
Check out this video of a school lockers stuffed with student phones at the moment the text was sent.

And there’s this poor dude who found himself at the wrong place at the precise wrong time.
I was in a cell phone store when the #presidentialalert happened.
Hell on Earth.

Of course a few other clever folks on Twitter had a little fun with the moment.

And no, there’s still no opt-out.
