Just a couple of days in, independent tests show Verizon’s new 5G network is delivering the speeds promised.
Signals Research Group tested 5G Verizon modems in Houston, TX, and results show the new network is delivering the 300Mbps to 1Gbps speech range.
Deployed small cells are delivering strong signals, even when paritially obstructed and up to six blocks away, according to SRG.
“We can be sitting literally behind a building and have a whole block of trees and no visibility to the cell site,” SRG’s Mike Thelander said, “and we’re still seeing hundreds and hundreds of megabytes in the downlink and just slightly lower in the uplink.”
In addition to Houston, Verizon is offering 5G service in Indianapolis, Los Angeles, and Sacramento.
“The world’s first commercial 5G service is here,” said Ronan Dunne, President, Verizon Wireless. “We’ve formed incredible partnerships with many of the world’s leading technology companies, the international technical standards bodies, public officials, developers and our own customers to drive the 5G ecosystem forward, faster than most had predicted. And now, actual customers. It’s been an incredible journey…and we’re just at the starting line.”
