NASA Mulls Sending Giant Robot Bees To Mars Because We’re Basically Living in ‘Black Mirror’ Now

NASA is looking for cheap and easy ways to explore Mars and one group thinks they have an answer: robot bees. They’re called “Marsbees” and present all kinds of advantages for space exploration in the most “Black Mirror” way possible.

In fairness, the robot bee bodies are normal size, it’s the wings that are supersized.

“Marsbees are robotic flapping wing flyers of a bumblebee size with cicada sized wings,” Dr. Chang-kwon Kang, of the University of Alabama said, according to the New York Post. “They are integrated with sensors and wireless communication devices. The swarm of Marsbees can significantly enhance the Mars exploration mission.”

The bees are still in the early stages of development, but show promise as a cheap and easy way to map the smallest details of the planet and send readings and samples back to Earth from every nook and cranny.

A swarm of intelligent bees let loose on the universe. What could possibly go wrong?
