Hold on, be quiet for just one sec so I can get Shazam to tell me the name of this song. It’s been driving me crazy. I keep hearing it everywhere. Now, thanks to a new deal between the app and Apple, after you put a name to the tune, you can go right to iTunes and buy it and listen whenever you want.
Founded in 1999, Shazam says it’s app has been downloaded more than a billion times. Apple appears to have scored a sweetheart deal for the popular app at a $400 million price tag. In 2015, Shazam was valued at $1 billion and followed by regular rumors about the company going public.
“We are thrilled that Shazam and its talented team will be joining Apple,” a spokesperson for Apple said in a statement, according to CNN. “Apple Music and Shazam are a natural fit, sharing a passion for music discovery and delivering great music experiences to our users. We have exciting plans in store.”
The sale is still pending final approval.
